Cyware Fusion and Threat Response

Configure Data Policy

Notice

This feature is only available for non-Cyware cloud-based deployments.

You can configure the data backup settings, such as automated backup, data retention period, backup reminders, backup path, and backup schedule. Data backup settings enable you to ensure data recovery during accidental data deletion, corrupted information, system outages, or disasters. You can back up the data of the following CFTR database services:

  • PostgreSQL

  • ElasticSearch

  • Redis

  • Object Storage (Default file server)

To configure the data backup settings, do the following:

  1. Go to Admin Panel > Configurations > Data Policy > Backup Settings.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. Enter the following details:

    • Automated Backup: Enable the toggle and select a time to automatically back up the data of the CFTR database services every day at a specific time.

    • Backup Retention Period: Enter a duration in days to retain the backed-up data. For example, 90 days. The default backup retention period is 30 days.

      Note

After the backup retention period, the backed-up data is deleted permanently and cannot be recovered.

    • Reminder Period For Backup Data Deletion: Enter a duration in days to receive a notification that the retention period of a backup is nearing and data will be deleted permanently. For example, 2 days.

    • Backup Path: Enter a directory path in the database server where you want to store the backup data. For example, /apps/cyware/cy-object-store/data/cftr-backup.

    • Backup Format And Schedule: Enter a backup schedule in hours or days to perform a complete backup of the CFTR application data. For example, 30 days.

  4. Click Save.

Note

The amount of data storage depends on the storage space of the database server.

CFTR runs the data backup as per the configured backup schedule. You can also click Backup Now to back up the data instantaneously.

View Backup History

To view the backup history of the CFTR application data, go to Admin Panel > Configurations > Data Policy > History. You can view the following backup history details:

  • Cron ID: Displays the unique ID to help identify the specific backup cron job that is running.

  • Backup Time: Displays the time and date at which the backup was done.

  • Type: Displays whether it is an automated or manual backup.

  • Backup By: Displays the username of the person who generated the backup.

  • Status: Displays whether a backup is in progress, failed, or successfully backed up.

  • Total Size: Displays the total storage size of the data that is backed up.

Data Policy Best Practices

Following are some data policy best practices to protect your CFTR data:

  • Backup Medium: Complete data recovery by choosing a remote backup. Off-site backup storage helps you copy and restore data when you cannot access your computer or storage system.

Cloud storage involves less risk of data loss and improves cost-effectiveness and scalability.

  • Frequency: Allow frequent monthly backups to avoid data loss in the interim period.

  • Automated Backups: Prevent the risk of relying on end-users to back up data.

  • Backup Retention Period: Define a retention period that meets your organizational requirements. This is to ensure you remain on par with the complaint and data retention standards.

Recover Backup Data

You can recover the backup data during a disaster. For more information, see Recover Backup Data.
